Day 158: Sour Worms

Mile 2180 to 2206

The forest blocked the morning sun, so despite our late departure at 7:30 it will still quite dark out.  We started with big climbs in the morning, but Hawkeye assured me we only had 1k of climbing at the beginning. Incorrect.

Today is my mom's birthday, and somehow I had good enough cell service to call and talk for an hour or so.  She is on her way with Michael, my stepdad, to Washington to meet up with us and provide some support for the last couple weeks of the trail.  I can't wait.

It took me the entire morning to catch up with Hawkeye and we sat down for lunch in a shoddy spot next to a trickling stream.  We chatted with the comers and goers, cheering in Fun Size and Shake and Bake for good measure.

We set goals for our afternoon because. our morning was a bit lethargic. Reach this point in an hour, when we reached it, we put our feet up for the remaining time if we were early and then set another goal.  Our prize for making it in on time was a sour gummy worm.  Using this method we rocked out 13 afternoon miles into Bear Lake and found a nice campsite.  Hawkeye celebrated by eating two dinners.

[Mountain... Hood? Adams? Meh; Standard signage on the PCT; more mountain!; 2200 miles!; feet up!]
