Day 176: Home Stretch

Mile 2569 to 2586

My body knew I was in a bed, not that tiny little tent, and oh did it sprawl out.  A glorious night's sleep was followed by almond butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast. Suuuperb.

My mom and I hung out on the porch for a good bit watching a sea plane taxi take off into the relatively strong morning wind. Seems like a pretty cool gig! We said our goodbyes and jumped on the 11:30 bus back to the trail head. A bakery stop on the way is customary, and we obliged by getting the most enormous cinnamon rolls.

The scenery has changed a bit going north out of Stehekin. Part of the change is the fact that it has been dry for two days, and the mud we were sliding in for the past week is now transformed back into standard grade PCT dust. But the landscape is a little friendlier, the trail a tad less rocky and a bit more level than what we have gotten used to.

Most of my hiking hours have been spent reflecting. We're in the final stretch to Canada, only four or so days left before Manning Park. I continually let memories play in my head of camping at 12k feet below Forester Pass, the first week on trail where we took a couple zeros and didn't make even 100 miles. There have been so so many good experiences, and I'm trying to relive them all.

64 miles to the border, the home stretch.
