Day 172: Sally Ann Lake

Mile 2480 to 2506

I started the morning off by walking down the wrong trail. Yeah. You know, it happens. I realized my mistake after about a half mile and reversed course. Chalk it up to a case of the Mondays.

We woke to rain, surprise surprise, and it more or less spit and sputtered all day. We would climb a mountain into a cloud, and then descend back out of it, misting and raining the whole time. It seemed like the views around us were spectacular, but we couldn't see more than a few hundred yards, so who knows.

It was a largely uneventful day aside from a quick word with two to three weekend hikers. The rain seems to isolate me inside my hooded jacket, and I simply trod on. I added some coffee to my oatmeal to give me a little get up and go for the afternoon. It helped; we did a couple more miles than anticipated and finished quite early, around 6. We're now in the final week and it's an interesting balance between wanting to be dry and have running water, while at the same time thoroughly enjoying nature and knowing I will miss the simplicity of this life.
