Day 124: The Fog

Mile 1514 to 1537.

You know the feeling on a Thursday morning when you get up, drive to work groggy as all get out, tired from the week but it’s still not Friday?  Well, that was Slow Magic on this fine Sunday.  The weather was great, the heat wave has broken at least a bit, the terrain is easing up, but, we woke up (well past our alarms at 6) and simply didn’t have it.  Sometimes this happens to a single person and the group can try and help them get in the hiking mood, but today a low fog hung over the whole crowd as we hiked.

Typically I can hike to landmarks, 8 miles to water, 6 miles to camp, 4 miles to a lake.  But today, I was setting small goals and grinding my way toward them.  2 miles and you can put your feet up, 3 miles and you can take a break, 1 mile and you can grab a snack out of your bag.  Maybe this difference seems small, but the mindset change in how you approach the day and how easily/quickly the miles pass by affects your entire experience.
