Day 165: But Why?

Mile 2334 to 2368

Today Hawkeye and I both woke with the eye of the tiger.  We stirred early, packed quickly, and started hauling down trail.  Today was going to be a good, and big, day.  The forecast has predicted a full day of rain tomorrow, and we want to get as close to Snoqualmie as possible.

We set a timer for lunch (only 28 minutes!) and easily were not ready in time.  The effort was there though.  In the afternoon I passed a woman and talked to her for a little bit despite our differences in pace.  We eventually traded names, and I found out this was ‘L rod’ (short for lightning rod).  I had heard about L rod from a gentleman doing some trail work a week or two back.  Remember Agua Dulce and the wonderful hiker haven?  L rod is the lovely woman who makes the whole thing tick.  I did not recognized her in her hiking gear and big sun hat, but how cool!  She has been section hiking the trail and this year is knocking out a huge portion from Northern California to the border.

We didn’t get into camp until after dark, and an old VW bus happened to be parked sideways in the “abandoned roadbed” that we were planning to sleep in. A trail angel!  We sat down with him as we ate our dinners and learned a little bit about the geography of Seattle from his atlas and his adventures in the area.  I put my rain fly on for the first time in ages, and we hunkered down, ready for the rain!
