Day 131: Oregon

Mile 1685 to 1710.

Oh that’s right, folks!  Animal and I took a short victory lap in the morning as we walked across the California/Oregon border.  It’s been a loooong time coming.

We celebrated with Aquarius and Miagi,  who packed out some Bells Oberon (fiiiine fiiiine Michigan beer) for the occasion.  We were amped up and for the next few hours Animal and I did what we normally do, tell nonsense back and forth to each other. “ShaBoom Boom” Animal will yell, “ShaBang Bang” I retort, “ShaBoing Boing!!!” It continues.

Late in the day I ran across some trail magic at the top of a climb.   Two picnic chairs set up with a cooler of Mt. Shasta soda in between. I’ve been wanting a Mt. Shasta soda ever since we saw that sucker 300 miles ago, and today was my day.  I sat back and enjoyed the scenery.  I rang the Fey to catch up,  and Animal passed me after a while saying, “Boomboom, I’m going to take a siesta up ahead, wake me when you walk by.”  Only Animal would take a siesta at 5pm in the middle of the trail. Classic.

We camped with a dude from the Netherlands, “Flying Dutchman”.  We had a nice conversation over dinner as we discussed his job back home of logistics/supply chain management.   I know,  it sounds exciting, and surprisingly, it was.  He, like most people out here, is looking to do something different upon his return.

Oregon is a big milestone and has been on our radar ever since we got out off the Sierra.  Let’s hope it treats us as well as Cali did!
